LITTLE RBAA

Youth Art Class – Level 1

In our level 1 youth art classes, students learn how to draw and color basic shapes and objects. Students develop foundational skills, such as coloring within the lines, cutting and pasting, and the fine motor skills necessary to make art. Students begin by using crayons, markers, oil pastels, do-a-dot art markers, and stickers.

Youth Art Class – Level 2

In our level 2 youth art classes, students continue to develop their observation skills and learn how to draw more complex objects and shapes. Students will receive an introduction to painting using water-based paint and finger painting, as well as learning how to create artwork with colored pencils, pen and ink, and collage.

Level 2 students also begin learning how to start and finish multi-week long projects. In addition to expanding their experience with different art materials, students learn about the horizon line, separating a picture into sky and ground, and the basics of shadows and shading.

Youth Art Class – Level 3

In our level 3 youth art classes, students learn the elements of art (line, shape, space, texture, etc.) and are introduced to the basics of color theory. Students continue to develop their observation skills, and are taught how to break down objects into basic shapes. Students learn depth and space, separating their drawings into foreground and background, and how to apply consistent shading from a single light source.

Level 3 students also create projects using a wide variety of art materials and techniques, including charcoal, soft pastels, watercolors, acrylic paint, ink wash, print making, scratch board, and stamping.
